MGM owns the Mandalay Bay hotel, where Paddock shot Ramos before he opened fire on country music concertgoers from his 32nd floor suite and killed 58 people. DeShong made the statement after a representative for Campos’ union said he prepared last Thursday for TV appearances but went to a health clinic instead. Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America leader David Hickey said Tuesday he last heard about Jesus Campos’ whereabouts from a union member who messaged that he was with him.
Hickey said the same union member sent messages Friday saying he was with Campos but not saying where. Campos talked with police but hasn’t spoken publicly about the October 1 massacre.
It comes after police dramatically alerted the timeline of the mass shooting. Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo initially said Jesus Campos was shot after Paddock killed. He said officers came across a wounded Campos at 10.18pm. But Lombardo has readjusted the timeline to report the guard was shot at 9.59pm.
Lombardo said during a press conference on Monday: ‘Mr. Campos was encountered by the suspect prior to his shooting to the outside world.’ It was first thought that Campos tried to confront Paddock after hearing bullets rain down on festival-goers, he was shot, then Paddock killed himself because he thought he was compromised.
However, this is not the case. It changes the circumstances under which Paddock killed himself. Police are still trying to find a motive for the killings.
